The Fragile Habitats is an architectural study of a “hybrid cave” as a form of habitation, aiming for sustainable architecture in ecologically sensitive environments. Fragile Habitats provides housing inhabited by humans and non-humans.
The complex shape is inspired by natural (growth) patterns of marine ecosystems in combination, nutrient-rich materials to invite animals and plants as well as humans to inhabit the structure. The work is manufactured with new printing technologies from the Concr3de 3D printing company that applies computational design processes in combination with materials in which stone waste is reused. Fragile Habitats is a project of MAEID “Büro für Architektur and transmediale Kunst”, Tiziano Derme & Daniela Mitterberger.
